cattle mutilation

01. pelican

i had decided, the night before, that i would go on a long walk. to clear my head, to have something to do. to not rot at home all day. to spend my time drawing and reading and such. the point is that i need to get out of the hole i'm in and do something with my life.

on google maps, i had settled it: i would go to the cemetery which is already a long way away, via an obtuse route, making sure to walk along the beach and soak up as many of those areas marked in green as possible. get some nature in my diet, have a place to think. you know how it is.

on the beach in the morning, the most exciting thing was two pelicans. i photographed them separately. they were close to each other but i decided it might be a death sentence to try getting them in the same shot, especially as there was a child nearby, and i don't want to photograph strangers and especially stranger children.

the photo above is the best photo i could get. they didn't want to pose, and they became too wary when i get close to them. not to mention the quality of the digital zoom on my phone, which betrays how large and striking these beasts are in person. it's a shame this trip wasn't planned for the day after, when my camera battery charger arrived
