stuck in the past
i realised a while ago that, when it comes to my interests, i'm stuck in the past. even if things are happening in the present, i'm still sitting in a place i shouldn't be.
it's a bit ridiculous.
the music scene i am most interested in hit its peak 20 years ago, and it's not like fans of so-called 90s music for example, where people are always going to be inspired by and producing similar or even new & beautiful things—it's the same few people doing the same few things, and it's going to be that forever, until they die. then, there won't be anything left.
these bands were at their most popular two decades ago, both domestically and internationally.
there have been no newcomers here for a decade.
the music they are inspired by is four decades old, and there's nothing new out of that scene that is not produced by these guys.
the list goes on.
it's a little insane in perspective: imagine an australian in 2006 being obsessed with random indie japanese bands, in a shitty and unpopular scene, and their releases from 1986. you wouldn't be able to find the smaller bands even if you had an internet connection and were studying japanese. it's pretty lucky, but i wonder why i can't care about anything brand new.
it's not just limited to music either...
the entire hobby of making websites is one that the average person could no longer dream of. let alone consider a real possibility, something easy to do, something fun and relatively simple.
all the movies i watch are old and foreign.
my aesthetic sensibilities are way outdated. at least people think i'm cool and authentic as a result, when i'm just following trends older than they are
i want to become a better and more in touch person. i don't know anything in the modern day.
i feel left behind.
